A wonderful country getaway. Jolly personable proprietor and lots of Olde English charm!

Beautifully positioned on the High Street in the picturesque, mediaeval
town of Burford, this charming small luxury hotel offers a very warm
welcome. With its soft-stoned exterior and crooked low-beamed
ceilings, this lovely seventeenth century building beckons you to walk
inside and take a break from the chaos of modern life. It's a wonderful
place in which to put your feet up for a while and enjoy relaxing in a
thoroughly genteel and harmonious environment.
We were most impressed with the warmth and courteousness of the
hotel owner Ian, whose friendliness and attention to detail added some
really special touches to our visit. Old fashioned hospitality is
paramount here - nothing is too much trouble - and we felt very well
looked after. The theatrically themed dining room serves dinner on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, caringly made with locally
sourced produce, by the head Chef & Co-owner, Stewart. We can
recommend them wholeheartedly as well as the renowned Cream Teas
on offer in the afternoons. The subtlety decadent ambience here
shines through proudly from Ian's love of the West End and Broadway.
Each bedroom is presented in its own unique style, all of them
beautifully furnished and decorated in tasteful Farrow and Ball colours.
Three bedrooms have comfortable four poster bed whilst other
bedrooms boast an elegant combination of antique and modern
furnishings. The well-appointed bathrooms are spacious and
immaculate, with roll topped baths and plenty of room to breathe.
Burford House can also offer two bedrooms which make up to a family
suite and there are two rooms in the adjoin Coach House which is
approached via the sun trapped courtyard garden. We loved the
hotel's traditional and luxurious ambience and we delighted in
exploring its numerous nooks and crannies. The quirky layout of the
older part of the building has resulted in some rooms having their own
separate landings which provide you with that little bit of extra
privacy. If you're a fan of teddy bears, you won't be able to resist the
hotel's unusual "adopt a teddy" scheme. These adorable Burford House
orphan teddy bears are sold to you complete with their very own
adoption papers!
Burford itself has a number of fine hostelries and teashops and is
surrounded by England's countryside at its most beautiful. You can
spend idyllic days driving through one glorious Cotswold village after
another and admiring the green and rolling landscape in-between.
There are plenty of interesting places to visit, including Blenheim
Palace and the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. Alternatively, if
you're interested in social history, you might wish to visit Burford
during the annual "Leveller's Day" event, held in commemoration of
the Levellers who were executed here in 1649. Burford House is truly
a unique "Olde English" experience, combined perfectly with the luxury
comforts of modern life.
